speaking to the forth years (and idea babies)

i found tuesday's morning session really refreshing because it basically did for me what i feel the studio is supposed to do, that is get the third and forth years to communicate without a drink in hand. The ideas created maybe in my opinion were far too zaney to use but it really did for me break down a barrier of lack of communication between the two classes and will hopefully make the studio less like indivuals in a room and more like 2 classes that feel comfortable just randomly with anything (if that even makes any sense :S)

cultural probing and 100 sketches

I have been thinking about the cultural probing and looking back on it despite the sheer cost and the annoyance of people wasting your time and saying they would do it and not bothering their arse i feel it was really useful. I mean although i had a topic that wasn't necessarily a strong interest (or at all) it put me in touch with some really interesting and helpful people. It actually influenced more of my hundred ideas than i thought it did at the time. It wasn't even just getting the probes back it was the seemingly random information i appear to have gathered just from talking to the people whilst handing out the probes and collecting them. Everyone seems to have an opinion on the hundred ideas we had to come up with for our project, so here is mine. It was relatively easy, i dont mean from a finalised idea point of view, just from a totally efficient way of getting some idea's flowing. The only real issue i had with the 100 sketches is that sometimes i felt a sketch was totally irrelevant because what was written was easier to understand than tryin to create a visualisation of it.

the packaging idea

i was reading a blog (shocker) and i think its a great idea of amazon to revert back to old skool methods of packaging. I mean realistically a toy for a child is tested to basically ensure it will not break immediately (hopefully) when a child gets it so why the hell wrap it in bubble wrap and fire it in 20 million boxes?? its soo bloody pointless, the only real issue i suppose it posses is that shops will need to either have a picture of it or have one out on display but this is surely a massive contrabution to trying to reduce cost of the products, waste, production time and best of all it means the packaging is fully recyclable. My only question is about the inks that are used to print onto the card, will these contaminate the card in any way??

ta-da :)

Finally got round to creating my blog (only been meaning to create it for the past month). Think I'm just going to use this as a totally random thought's outlet hence the very catchy title. Why is it whenever you (in other words I) go to do anything remotely tech based it goes tits up?? This evening ones self tried to use a laptop to watch a film on my tv, sounds simple enough? VGA cable connected at each end and lone-be-hold it should pop up on screen?? That would be too bloody simple though. My seemingly random point is even using the windows help bit i still couldn't get the thing to work, why can windows display all your info about your computer to you but not have an idiot proof function that will find what driver is needed. Surely just because your hookin' up a laptop to a tv doesn't necessarily mean you have a tech mind. I am only ranting about this as i lost three hours of my life that i will never get back on this mindless task. Oh i also hate .avi files. grr
